New Orleans Saints (-7) at Carolina Panthers (+7); Total 51
The Saints (3-1) vs. Panthers (1-3) Week #5 matchup goes Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM ET. The Saints are coming off a 23-10 win over the Jaguars while the Panthers are coming off a 29-24 loss in Chicago to the Bears. The Panthers might be 1-3 on the season but they have been keeping all their games close. Of their 3 losses the Panthers have not lost by more than a touchdown yet. As a result the Panthers are a solid 3-1 against the spread this season. A big reason for this has been the offense of the Panthers which is averaging 346 yards per game. The Panthers couldn’t have hoped for a better start from their rookie QB Cam Newton. Newton’s numbers threw 4 games are off the charts: 1386 passing yards, 133 rushing yards, 9 TD’s (5 Pass, 4 rush). And it seems Newton may have some more help in the upcoming weeks. Last week saw the Panthers running game finally come to life. Carolina’s RB’s Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams combined for 134 yards on just 18 carries last week. If the Carolina running game gets it together it will only make Came Newton all the more dangerous. Now the New Orleans Saints are no slouches but they do have a history of playing down to their competition. This is evidenced by their 2-9 ATS record in their last 11 games to opponents with a losing record. The current betting line for this game is the Saints -7 (Panthers +7) at Bodog Sportsbook. -7 points are too many to be laying on the road against an explosive Panthers offence that is only going to get better. I’ll take the Panthers and the +7 points in this matchup. If you like the Panthers be sure to get them at +7 before the line changes.
