New Jersey Devils (1.87) vs. Carolina Hurricanes (2.05); Total 5.5
Entering the Christmas break the Devils were on fire winning 5 of their last 6 games (and 7 of their last 9). Usually when the Devils are winning it is from great defence and goaltending. While this aspect has been solid it has been their offence that has been most impressive. The Devils have score 3 or more goals 7 out of their past 9 games and are averaging 3.67 goals per game over that stretch. As for the Hurricanes this season has been a complete disaster. The Hurricanes have but just 3 wins in their last 14 games. They fired their coach but that made little difference. Both Staal and Ward are having terrible seasons and their best player Jeff Skinner is still sidelined with a concussion. Can the Devils keep to their winning ways coming out of the break?

Devils vs. Hurricanes Prediction:
The Christmas break is only 2 days so that is not a huge factor. In goal for the Devils tonight will be Hedberg. Hedberg has clearly been the Devils best goaltender this season going 10-5-1 with a 2.41 GAA. Cam Ward will get the start for the Canes. This season has been a struggle for Ward posting a 3.23 GAA. When we look at the history between these teams it strongly favors the Devils. New Jersey has won 5 in a row over the Canes and 8 of the last 10 games vs. them. Currently the Devils are a slight 1.87 favorite at Bodog Sportsbook. All trends point towards a Devils win in this game.
