Free NHL Pick For February 8: Edmonton vs. Detroit
Edmonton Oilers (3.10) vs. Detroit Red Wings (1.40); Total 5.5
These two teams met Saturday night and we saw a wild 5-4 SO win from the Oilers. For the rematch the Red Wings will be without #1 goaltender Jimmy Howard and Nugent-Hopkins is back on the shelf for the Oilers with a sprained shoulder. Remember early in the season when the Oilers were playing great defence and winning games 2-1. Well, those days are long gone. Edmonton Oilers games look more like pond hockey games these days with teams trading scoring chances back and forth for three periods. The Oilers will be hard pressed to pull off back-to-back wins over Detroit. The Red Wings have won 17 consecutive games on home ice while the Oilers have but 1 win in their last 15 road games. Surely the Red Wings win this game easily right?

Edmonton Oilers vs. Detroit Red Wings Prediction:
Most likely the Red Wings win this game but it doesn’t make much sense betting on them for 1.40 when they don’t even have Howard in between the pipes. Instead I like the OVER in this game. In the last three Edmonton Oilers games there have been 30 goals. Detroit in it’s last 4 games have scored 3 or more and allowed 3 or more in 3 out of those 4 games. There are going to be a ton of scoring chances in this game and neither team has a hot goaltender. At least 6 of the chances should find the back of the net. I’ll take the Oilers vs. Red Wings OVER 5.5 goals for 1.83 at Bodog Sportsbook.
