Blues vs Lightning Pick For March 17, 2012

Free NHL Pick For March 17: Blues vs. Lightning

St. Loius Blues (1.62) vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (2.48); Total 5.5

7:05 PM ET starting time for this game.
Neither team is playing great hockey. The Blues have dropped two games in a row while the Lightning have just 1 win in their last 5 games. Usually I don’t over react to a backup goaltender starting for a particular team. Yes it matters but most backup goaltenders are more than capable of playing a great game when they come in, they just don’t do it on a consistent basis like the #1’s. But when Dwayne Roloson starts it really does make a difference. Roloson’s better days are clearly behind him. He came in last week when Garon got hurt and the Lightning went on to lost that game 7-3. And the fact that Roloson has not been playing on a regular basis over the past month or so doesn’t help his cause. The St. Louis goaltender has not been confirmed but we will probably see Halak between the pipes for the Blues.

Blues vs Lightning Prediction:

The Blues have allowed 2 goals or less in 11 of their past 12 games. It is hard to imagine the Blues not scoring more than 2 against a Lightning team with Roloson in goal. Currently the Blues are a 1.62 favorite at 5 Dimes Sportsbook. This is a bigger favorite than I prefer to bet so instead I will play the Blues to win in regulation time (-0.5 puck) for 2.06 at 5 Dimes Sportsbook. For this wager to win the Blues must be winning by 1 goal or more at the end of the 3rd period. If the game is ties or Tampa is winning at the end of the 3rd this wager does not win.
