Free NFL Proline Picks | Week #1 | Sep 13, 2015
We have a bunch of close games to open the NFL season as there are only two teams favoured by more than 4 points (Packers and Cowboys). Betting on NFL games in the first week or two is always difficult as we only have expectations and last season’s stats to go on which can be misleading. The Redskins defence is expected to be terrible again and a lot of people are predicting Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill to have a big year but the spread already has Miami as a -4 point road favourite and laying points on the road in the NFL is tough. In fact 8 of the 15 games this weekend have the road team as the favourite. We are going to stay away from all of those. Instead we’ll take a look at the total in the Chiefs / Texans game and one of the home teams.
Neither the Chiefs or the Texans have a great QB but both teams do have good defences. Put the Chiefs on the road and there offence struggles even more. The Chiefs averaged just 16 points per game in last seasons 8 road games and failed to score 21+ points in any of those 8 games. They should have a tough time scoring 20 against JJ Watt and a solid Texans defence. And the Texans offence which is lead by Brian Hoyer is unlikely to explode for a big game. Taking unders is not a sexy pick but we feel like this is the best bet for Week #1. Currently Bodog Canada has the total for the Chiefs vs. Texans game at 40.5 points. We like the UNDER in this game.
Pick #1: Taking KC vs. HOU UNDER 40.5 Points (offered at Bodog Canada)
The Saints have always struggled on the road as they have just a 10-14 record over the last 3 seasons and they will be without Jimmy Graham as well. Meanwhile the Cardinals were great at home last season posting a 7-1 record and they are projected to have another solid season. The home / road split stats in this game heavily favour the home team who are just a -2.5 favourite at Bodog Canada. We’ll take the Cardinals to cover the short spread.
Pick #2: Taking ARZ -2.5 Points over NWO (offered at Bodog Canada)
